Katie Mitchell is accepted into the film school of her dreams. Her whole family drives Katie to school together when their plans are interrupted by a tech uprising. The Mitchells will have to work together to save the world.

Upon seeing the first teaser for this film, I felt that the team at Sony Pictures Animation – hot from their critically-claimed work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – had served up a fizzer. The initial concept of parents being fed-up with children’s excessive reliance on tech devices is a fairly old gag that has run its course. Having said that, the extended trailer reveals that the tech separation is simply a background element designed to provide an excuse for a mad-capped family road trip to take place. In that context, the film could have something to offer.

The cinema world has been filled with more adult-oriented road trip movies in recent decades, but Connected may fill a gap in terms of a family-friendly adventure that is low in stakes, but high in drama and comedy.

What do you think? Based on the film’s trailer, are you excited about venturing out to see Connected with your clan?
