Extraction
Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary, embarks on the most deadly extraction of his career when he's enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.
While Chris Hemsworth fans await the arrival of Thor: Love and Thunder in 2021, this Netflix film looks to be a solid avenue through which to experience the Aussie actor’s versatile action credentials. Once considered a vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, this film has all the hallmarks of an edge-of-the-seat action thriller.
Hemsworth’s anti-hero mercenary character, Tyler Rake, is sent on a daring mission to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned Indian crime lord and, given the movie’s R rating and the pacing of the trailer, it’s clear that he dishes out an abundance of violence while doing so. Produced by Avengers: Endgame’s Russo Brothers and with locations set across India and Bangladesh, Extraction is bound to feel epic in scale.
The trailer indicates that much of the pathos from the film comes after the initial extraction is carried out, as the relationship between Tyler Rake and the young boy, Ovi Mahajan, strengthens through shared turmoil during the escape. Extraction also stars Netflix regular David Harbour, in a role that will hopefully allow the movie-going public to forget about his disastrous turn as Hellboy.
Given that the film is scheduled for release on the popular streaming platform while many people are at home in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s bound to receive a strong viewership. Hopefully for those involved, it lives up to its billing as one of the most anticipated action films of the season.
